Buying regulated medical cannabis legally is a bureaucratic maze. Patients need a specialized consultation, a valid prescription, regulatory authorization documents, identity verification, and only then can they order, and every step happens in a different place. Physicians face their own friction: credential validation, availability management, prescription issuing, and payment tracking, usually spread across disconnected tools. The challenge was collapsing that entire journey into one platform without losing the compliance requirements that make it legal. Every shortcut that would make the UX simpler had a regulatory rule standing in front of it.
The hardest design problem was the medication purchase flow on the patient side. Legally, a patient can't just add to cart and check out. They need a valid prescription, an identity document, proof of residence, and authorization from the health agency, all verified before payment. The obvious approach was a long single form. I broke it instead into a staged flow that mirrors how patients actually think: choose the medication, choose the acquisition channel, upload documents, review, pay, track. Each stage is small enough to complete without anxiety, and the patient always knows where they are and what comes next. Compliance became part of the flow's rhythm instead of a wall at the end. On the physician side, the same principle applied to onboarding: credential submission, document analysis, professional validation, and availability setup as clear sequential stages rather than one overwhelming registration.

The platform launched with dozens of licensed physicians and hundreds of active patients managing consultations, prescriptions, and medication orders end to end. As the sole designer, I delivered three complete environments, patient, physician, and admin, covering every flow from consultation booking and digital prescriptions through document verification, payment, and delivery tracking. The admin platform gave the operations team full oversight: user management, prescription and order monitoring, catalog management, and a dashboard tracking prescriptions and orders across the year.
Working inside an agency sprint model meant presenting directly to the client every cycle and iterating fast on feedback. The regulatory requirements were non-negotiable, so I treated them as design constraints from day one rather than obstacles to work around. I mapped every flow against the compliance checklist before going high-fidelity, which meant zero rework caused by legal review, in a product where a single missed requirement could block launch.
